- BIOGRAPHY: 1. Original settler of Strongstown, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. Strongstown was patented in 1823.
2. 1785--Private, York County Muster Roll, 6th Company of militia. Pennsylvania Archives, Vol. 3, p. 1475.
3. 1790--Taxed with James Sr. in York County. James, Sr. had 50 acres, 1 horse, 1 cow. Tax, 2 pounds 35. James, Jr. had 50 acres. Tax 1 pound 103.
4. 1796--Bought land in Windsor Township on April 30.
5. James Strong signed his name in German to a mortgage in Windsor twp in which he stood bound to Matthias Becker. The mortgage was satisfied in 1807. Recorded in Deed Book K, pg. 273, York County, Pennsylvania on June 3, 1801.
6. 1803--Bought land in Wheatfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, which became Indiana County on 30 March 1803 shortly after the purchase. Wheatfield township was divided in 1836, and the land James purchased was then in the new township of Brushvalley. James never lived in Westmoreland, for he doesn't appear in assessments until 1807, but he did own the land.

9. James Strong was one of the jurors called for the Court of Quarter Sessions, the second Monday in June 1807. From "Quarters Sessions Court Docket, Book 1".
10. James Strong signed his will in German.
11. James Strong and his wife donated land for a church to be built in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. The services were first conducted in German.

ORDINANCES: Jacob Strong listed as proxy for sealing to parents. Re-bapt 14 July 1993 SEATT; Re-endowed 8 Apr 1994 SEATT; re-sld to parents 19 May 1994 SEATT.
James Strong, Jr., who was an avid Lutheran, was very upset when his son, Jacob, joined the Mormons and practically disowned him.
LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JAMES STRONG
In the name of God Amen. I James Strong of Brushvalley Township, Indiana County and State of Pennsylvania, considering myself of sound mind and memory, blest be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament revoking all others by me heretofore made, that is today I first commit my soul to almighty God who gave it me and my body to be buried in a Christian manner at the directions of my friends and executors,.
I … will that all of my just Debts as shall be by me owing at my Death, together with any Funeral Expenses and all Charges touching the proving of or otherwise concerning this my will shall be the first place be paid out of my personal Estate and Effects and from and after the payment thereof and subject thereunto Then it is my will that all the residue of my goods, stocks, chattels, and household and … furniture shall be … …. And sold. One third part thereof I give and Bequeath unto my Beloved Wife Kathryn Strong. The other Two Shares to be equally Divided share and share alike … Michael, Jacob and John Strong to … except shares of my Real Estate to be Rented for the use of My wife so long as she remains my widow and at her Death or marriage the same to be sold and one hundred Dollars of the Proceeds of said sale I give and Bequeath unto my then sons that is to say to my Eldest son Michael Strong I give the sum of forth Dollars and to my son …., Jacob Strong I give and Bequeath the sum of thirty Dollars and to my youngest son John Strong I give and bequeath the sum of Thirty Dollars and the Residue I give and Bequeath unto my five Daughters share and share a like (That is to say) I give and bequeath unto my eldest daughter Elizabeth I give a one fifth, part of the same and to my Daughter Kathryn Michael I give and bequeath a one firth part of the same and to my Daughter Margaret Miller I give and bequeath one fifth part of the same and to my Daughter Susan Bennett I give and Bequeath the one fifth part of the same and to my Daughter Mary Layton I give and Bequeath the one fifth part and I do have by Michael Strong and John Strong, my two eldest sons sole Executors of this Last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this sixth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-seven.
