    • In the past, this James Fish, married to Jane Thompson, was identified as the son of Benjamin Fish (b. 1727) and Ann Walsh (b. 1727). Further research has indicated that this cannot be. Benjamin Fish's will was found in the Episcopal Consistory Court of Chester, Family History Library Film 088914. The following was noted:

      Will of Benjamin Fish of Over Darwen in the Parish of Blackburn, cotton carder.
      Bequests:
      1. Wife Ann of Nanny Fish, leasehold messuage and tenement in Over Darwen as well as the use of the household furniture and any personal estate, goods and chattels during her lifetime.
      2. Son William Fish
      3. Daughter Jane Fish
      4. Son John Fish
      5. Son Joseph Fish
      6. Son Roger
      7. Daughter Betty, wife of William Knowles
      8. Son Thomas Fish and his children
      9. Children of deceased son James Fish

      Executors: Sons William and John and John Dewhurst of Heightside in Over Darwen.
      Will dated: June 8, 1797
      Will proved October 2, 1799.

      Thus James Fish, son of Benjamin Fish was deceased by 8 June 1797. The James Fish who married Jane Thompson did not died until 8 June 1834. He also fathered a son by Jane, Arthur, in 1801.
