Birth: May 25, 1866, Germany Death: Feb. 27, 1958ElginKane CountyIllinois, USA Funeral services for William M. Schnetlage, 91, of 127 North Avenue, Barrington, retired painter and decorator, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stirlen Funeral Home. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.Mr. Schnetlage died last Thursday morning at Sherman Hospital, Elgin, where he was admitted the previous evening after he suffered injuries when he fell down the basement stairs at his home. He was taken to the hospital by the Stirlen ambulance and at first it was thought that he was not seriously injured and was just suffering from shock, but x-rays revealed that he had a broken pelvis and ten fractured ribs along with other injuries. The accident occurred when he was returning to the house through the basement after chopping loose some ice on a sidewalk in the backyard at his home, it was reported. He was going up the stairs when he fell. He followed in death his wife, Minnie, who died on Feb. 4 at the age of 84 after a long illness. Mr. Schnetlage, who was active as a painter and paperhanger up until about 10 years ago, would have observed his 92nd birthday this May 25.Mr. Schnetlage started his painting and decorating business shortly after arriving in this country and he followed that occupation all the way through his active working years and on a limited and personal basis, all his life. Just last summer he painted the kitchen in his home, and two years ago, he painted the outside of the family's large two-story house.Mr. Schnetlage was a long time and devoted member of Salem Church and even though his hearing was impaired he regularly attended the Sunday morning worship services. He was the oldest member of the church.
