TAKEN BY DEATH
Well Known Resident
Here All Her Life
Death claimed Mrs. Mabel Ellen Jennings, 51, wife of Roy Jennings, well known resident of LeMars, at the Sacred Heart hospital Wednesday, September 16. Mrs. Jennings had been failing in health for some time and recently underwent an operation.
Mrs. Jennings was born in LeMars March 25, 1891, and spent practically all her life in and around LeMars with the exception of nine years when she lived at Lake Benton, Minn. and a year at Brookings, S.D.
She was a daughter of Michael Ferguson and Elizabeth Ashton, early settlers in LeMars. She was married to Roy Jennings in LeMars July 24, 1908. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, Roy Jennings, three adopted sons, George and William, attending Northwestern Bible school in Minneapolis, and John, of Long Beach, Cal., two brothers and four sisters, Al. J. Smith of Moville, William Smith of LeMars, Mrs. Herman Gerber of Alton, Mrs. Arnold Coppock of LeMars, Mrs. N.E. Luken of Des Moines, Mrs. Leslie Bowen, of Maurice. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
Mrs. Jennings was a devout member of the Baptist church and an ardent worker in the church, the Sunday school and affiliated with various societies. She was a good neighbor and friend, esteemed by a large number who knew her well.
The funeral will be held Friday, September 18, from the home at 2 o’clock with services at 2:30 in the First Baptist Church. Rev. S.A. Jones, the pastor, will officiate, and interment will be made in the city cemetery.
