      Clarence King, Vet of Eight Campaigns, Now Home on Leave
      Eight major engagements capped by action in the Philippines campaign, can be counted to the record of Clarence C. King son of Mrs. J.S. Thorburn, 707 South 5th, Kelso, who recently returned home on leave after 13 months of naval duty in the South Pacific. King who entered the Navy a few days after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, saw action at Guadalcanal, Kula Gulf, Bougainville, the Bismarck sea, Saipan, Guam, Peleliu and Philippines and returned to the states Dec 7, on the third anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
      A graduate of Kelso High School, class of 1938, King received his boot training at San Diego. On completion of leave, he is going to Norfork, VA, for further assignment.

      Clancy C. King
      Longtime local resident Clancy C. King, 72, 801 S. Fourth Ave., Kelso, died Nov 10, 1992 at Community Hospice. He was born July 29, 1920, in Weiser, Idaho, and moved to Kelso from Bend, Ore., in 1933.
      He worked in maintenance at Weyerhaeuser Co., for 28 years, retiring in 1978. Mr. King served in the Washington National Guard from 1937-1940 and the Navy from1941-1945. He was past commander of the Kelso American Legion and a troop leader with Boy Scouts of America. He also raised many foster children.
      Survivors include two sons, Brian King of Kelso and Patrick King of Ashland, Ore.; three daughters, Vicky Faulkner of Vancouver, Candy Wallace of Poulsbo, Wash, and Cathy Hernandez of Kelso; a brother Kenneth King of Kelso; and eight grandchildren.
      The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Central Christian Church in Kelso. Chaplain Lyle Prather will officiate. Concluding service and interment will be a 12:30 p.m. Monday at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland
      Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Columbia Funeral Services.
