- [S313] Obituary, Oregon.
Mrs. A. E. Franklin, mother of A. F. Simeral and Mrs. W. L. Hicks of this city, died very suddenly last Monday of heart failure. She appeared to be in her usual good health previous to her death, and passed away while sitting in her chair, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. L. Hicks.
Mrs. Franklin was one the early pioneers of Silverton and her long residence in the city has given her a wide, as well as a favorable acquaintance. She was a little past 70 years of age at the time of her sudden demise. As a mother, friend and neighbor she was lvoed by all.
The funeral services were held in the Christian church Wednesday. Elder M. Brownrigg officiating.
Mrs. Franklin was born in Essex Co. N.Y., Oct. 28, 1832. She embraced religion at an early age, uniting with the M. E. Church of which she remained a member until a few years ago when she joined the United Bretheren, and later with the Christian church. In 1849 she moved to Iowa, and was married to John H. Simeral Dec. 9th, 1852. They resided in Iowa until the Spring of 1864, when they crossed the plains to Orgon. They arrived in Boise City, Idaho, in the fall and spent the winter there, and in the spring of '65 came to the Willamette valley, settling in Marion county, where the family has since resided, with the exception of one and one-half years residence in Clackamas county.
John Simeral, on Dec. 21st;1891, preceded her to the father shore. To this union were born five children, four of whom still survive. W.L. Simeral of Macleay, A. F. Simeral and Mrs. Carrie Hicks, of Silverton, and C.J. Simeral of Salem, Oregon. The subject of this sketch was again united in marriage on Nov. 27th, 1897, to Josiah Franklin who died three months later. Since that time she has lived with her children. She was lain to rest by the side of her first husband, in the Warren cemetery eight miles south of Silverton, Dec. 9th, 1903.
