      Dallas R. McKennon (born July 19, 1919) is an American actor, sometimes credited as Dal McKennon, with extensive work as a voice actor.

      Born in La Grande, Oregon, McKennon's best-known roles are that of Gumby for Art Clokey, and Archie Andrews for Filmation's Archie series, and the primary voice of Buzz Buzzard in the Woody Woodpecker cartoons.

      He also sang, and provided many character voices for Disney. His distinctive voice can be heard in movies such as Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Mary Poppins, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. He also provided the voices for many Disney Attractions such as the famous Big Thunder Mountain Railroad safety spiel, Ben Franklin's voice in Epcot's American Adventure and the voice of Zeke in the Country Bear Jamboree.[1]

      His best-known live action role is that of the innkeeper, Cincinnatus, in the Daniel Boone TV series starring Fess Parker. He also had a bit part as a gas station attendant the Elvis Presley film Clambake.

      Now retired and living in Cannon Beach, Oregon, McKennon remains one of the few voice actors from the Disney and Walter Lantz area still alive and willing to talk to fans whenever possible.[2]

      Voice actor Dallas Mckennon died at 89 Portland, Dallas Mckennon, a longtime voice actor who also played Cincinnatus on the "Daniel Boone" television series, died July 14 at the nursing home in Raymond, Wash. He was 89. Mckennon was credited with more than 160 various character voices-ranging from Archie and Gumby to Buzz Buzzard and Joe Hardy. He appeared in almost 40 episodes of "Daniel Boone" and his "Captain Jet" was one of the first daily children's TV shows in Los Angeles. Mckennon was born in Eastern Oregon city of La Grande. The Observer newspaper in that city reports that a memorial service will be held Aug 1 at the Cannon Beach (Ore.) Community Presbyterian Church.

      Dallas R. McKennon, 89, recently residing in Raymond, Wash., died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, in Willapa Harbor Care Center. He was born July 19, 1919, in La Grande to Raymond and Grace (Carter) McKennon.

      For over 40 years Dallas had an extensive career in the entertainment business including radio, TV and movies, on camera and off. He has been officially credited with over 160 various character voices such as "Gumby," "Buzz Buzzard" and "Archie." A career starting in radio and KGW in Portland moved on to dreams of Hollywood. His "Captain Jet" was one of the first daily children's TV shows in Los Angeles. He enjoyed many years of voice work with Walt Disney and Walter Lantz. Dallas became "Cincinnatus" on Fess Parker's "Daniel Boone" TV series. Through the years he worked with many interesting people such as Alfred Hitchcock, Elvis Presley and Johnny Carson. Dallas had been a member of AFTRA and the Screen Actors Guild for 57 years.

      After residing in the Hollywood area for 16 years, the McKennon family moved back to Oregon at Cannon Beach where Dallas began writing and performing his musical productions including "Johnny Appleseed," "Kaintuck" and "Wagons Ho."

      A veteran of World War II serving in the Army Signal Corps, Dallas married Betty Warner on Dec. 6, 1942, in Portland. She survives him and resides in Aberdeen Wash. Dallas is survived by six daughters, Dalene Lackaff of Woolwich, Main; Barbara Porter and Linda Strozyk both of Raymond; Gayle McKennon of Hyannis, Mass.' Tamara Rock of South Bend, Wash.; and Wendy McKennon of North Bend; two sons, Jerald McKennon of Tualatin and Steven McKennon of Newberg; 21 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, in the Cannon Beach Comunity Presbyterian Church in Cannon Beach.

      Arrangements are in care of Stoller's Mortuary in Raymond.
