I know now that he was born in Brush Valley, Indiana County, PA on 22 Jan 1840.

    8. [S282] E-Mail from June Carroll.
James ( William's brother) lived with them most of his life. He is in all the census. James died first so I will have to put him in here for a moment.
James was born 2 June 1855 in Illinois (don't know where in Illinois) He died 11 January 1916 (heart attack) in Platte twp., Dodge County, NE. in the barn. (This is what is on his death certificate but William and Edith's deaths are listed in Fremont and I know it is all the same home/barn) All are buried in the Ridge cemetery in Fremont, Dodge County, NE.
Then Edith died also heart failure on 19 Feb 1916 in Fremont, NE at home at the breakfast table. She was born 18 Oct 1847 in Iowa. (Her parents were Eli and Susan ( ?) Wallace) Then William's death was a suicide (by hanging) on 27 June 1916 in the same barn as James died. Very tragic and I had a hard time believing the dates until I got all of their death certificates and obituaries.
I had heard as a young girl that one of Utah's brothers died of suicide or he had been murdered so it was like finishing the story for me when I finally had all the pieces.
      Date: 12 March 2005

    9. [S283] Death Certificate: Nebraska, Certificate #5771.
Now it was a different story when William died as a Mrs. F. H. Wallace gave the information. I think she was probably the wife of one of Edith's brothers. (Frances)

THIRD TRAGIC DEATH IN SAME FAMILY
William Wilson Commits Suicide by Hanging
      Body found by son
Brother found dead in same building six months ago while wife expired suddenly at breakfast table in February.
William Wilson, formerly a well known farmer of the North Bend vicinity,
committed suicide at his home in Inglewood by hanging himself early
this morning. Mr. Wilson was found by he son, Charles who went in
search of his father at 5:30 o'clock this morning when the latter was found missing from his bed.
The body was swinging from a rafter in the barn. He had been dead only a
short time as Mrs. Charles Wilson had visited his room at 4 a.m. to give
him medicine. At that time he seemed in good spirits. When Mr. and Mrs. Wilson arose at 5:30 they discovered that the elder Mr. Wilson had left his
room. When he failed to appear in a reasonable time the son went in
      search of him.
      (Evidence of Plans)
That Mr. Wilson had planned the act for several days is the belief of relation.
A rope that had been at the barn for several months disappeared a few
days ago and inquiry from Mr. Wilson as to what had become of the rope
brought the reply that he knew nothing of the rope. It was the same rope that
he used for taking his own life. A box that had been used by the children of
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wilson in their play was used by the elder Mr. Wilson
on which to stand while he fastened the rope to the rafter. When found
the box was in position with the dead man's legs dangling on either side.
      (Third Tragic Death)
This makes the third tragic death at the Wilson home within the last six
months. Last January, a brother, James Wilson was found dead in the
same building where William Wilson ended his life. Mrs. William Wilson
died suddenly while at the breakfast table February 19.
      (Had Been in Poor Health)
Worry over the death of Mrs. Wilson and that of his brother is said by relatives to have been responsible for the act of Mr. Wilson this morning. He had been in failing health for the last few weeks and had been under a physician's care.
While his condition was not considered serious his son, Charles and family
had considered it necessary that they make their home with him in order to care
      for him.
      (No Inquest)
Dr. George Hastam, who was called in the absence of Coroner R. T. Van
Metre decided that an inquest was unnecessary.
Mr. Wilson who was a native of Illinois was 74 years of age. He came to Nebraska in 1865 locating near North Bend, where he made his home for a few years. He went from there to LeMars, IA, where he resided for for a few years, returning to the North Bend vicinity in the early 80s. Four years ago he
removed to Fremont and had since made his home here. Three sons, Sam of Portland, Jonas of Johnstown and Charles of Fremont, and one daughter, Miss Cora of Fremont are the close surviving relatives.
Final arrangements have not been made awaiting the arrival of his son, Sam.
      Date: 27 June 1916

    11. [S282] E-Mail from June Carroll.
All [William Wilson, his brother James, and his wife Edith] are buried in the Ridge Cemetery in Fremont, Dodge County, Nebraska.
